Travelling is a unique experience overall, but it can get a little stale when we visit the same places in the same way each year. When thinking of a walking holiday, we usually do so on a small scale: take to the countryside nearby where we live and camp for a few days in between scaling that hillside we’ve had an eye on whenever we pass by it. However, taking a plane across the ocean to another country has a lot more to offer than your local floral and fauna. Try some of these walking holiday tips for a better experience abroad.
It Keeps You in Shape in a Fun Way
If you’re off on an adventure, you’re going to be doing a lot of your own travel. Thus, you’re going to need to be able to keep up with it. Your legs and feet won’t thank you at first, but you’ll be building up more and more endurance each day, and at the same time seeing great sights and that monument you’ve always wanted a selfie next to.
Walking is so beneficial in that it’s a gradual keep fit process, and allows you to better work on your stamina over a period of time. It’s more likely to keep your levels up for longer as well! You won’t go through an area too fast to catch anything, and you can stop and start at any time.
You Can Always be with Friends
Going on vacation with a friend group is an amazing time. Yet, so often when we’re on vacation, we can split off from the group to do our own things, and then be hard pressed to find them again when it’s time to regroup. This is one of the most annoying parts about a vacation: not knowing what people get up to.
Splitting up in the middle of a city when you have a plan to meet back exactly there at a set time is all well and good, but accidents can happen, and so can getting lost. Therefore, a walking vacation, when you’ve decided to stick yourselves together for weeks doesn’t suffer from this problem. You need to stay together to keep to a route, and it’s some great character building amongst you.
Look for Well Known Trails
When you’re in a foreign country, you’re not going to know the back routes. Similarly, you’re not going to know which alleys and woods are going to be safe to traverse through. So, stick to what’s been advertised on the screens at home and on the internet, and book through travel companies for tour guides and other exclusives to help you on your way. For example, trekking in Bhutan can be done easily along the Himalayan steppes when you know what you’re doing as an expert give you advice and their number.
There’s a lot you can do for a walking vacation, and usually there’s no set itinerary, meaning you can get up to whatever you want to do.
