Let’s talk a new Filipino
delicacy here in Best of World Travel. Today, I will show you one of the best delicacies in the Philippines, the renowned Coconut Pie.
Coconut Pie or also know as “Buko Pie” in the Philippine language is obviously a Pie that is created from coconuts. These coconuts are special because they are baked from young coconuts. These young coconuts are very sweet and soft that will almost melt inside our mouths. Other coconut pies are baked from slightly matured coconut fruits.
What is Buko Pie Made of?
The pie is composed of sweetened condensed milk that makes it healthier and denser. It also has a coconut milk that adds up the sweetness in the whole delicacy. It was traditionally all coconut pie, but as time goes by there are some variations like Buko-Pandan Pie and BukoNut Pie. Although, a Buko-Pandan Pie is more popular than the Buko-Nut pie which has different kinds of nuts in the pie itself.
The Buko Pie’s Appearance
The Pie itself is consisted of a Crust, a not-so-hard crust but is still crunchy that adds up to the excitement while we chomp into this Filipino delicacy. It also has an outside layer to hold off the soft parts inside of the Coconut Pie. There are some cheese and small bits of young coconut just above to serve as the toppings. They are bittersweet that makes up this Filipino dessert.
As for the insides, we can see a huge part where there is a sweet and tender young coconut. It is so soft that makes us want to eat more than ever. But please be careful if you have some issues in sugar.
This Filipino delicacy is best served when hot! It can be purchased along the road, there are many people who sell this food, but I recommend to buy them at renowned bus terminals.
We bought a Bulacan based Buko Pie, but I heared that the BEST Buko Pie will come from Binan, Laguna. They come in a box, at around 10 inches by 10 inches with a thickness of around 2 inches. You will actually notice is as soon as you see the seller because when in eye contact, they will rush into your aide.
